Here are some reminders and tax strategies that can benefit you now at year-end, even if you have already made a gift this year.  To see a tax break for this year (when you itemize deductions on your income tax returns), make sure your gift is received and/or processed before December 31.

Checks: Send your gift via U.S. Postal Service with a postmark on or before December 31. (Our address is P.O. Box 3429, Eatonton, Georgia 31024)

Securities - Donate appreciated stock: With the stock market at or near all-time highs, gifting appreciated stocks will avoid capital gains tax. Initiate a transfer as soon as possible by contacting Pat Ware at  Wells Fargo Advisors at 706-453-2663.

Retirement Plans: You can name a nonprofit such as Georgia Writers Museum as a beneficiary of your retirement plan assets. These are taxable if distributed to a loved one but are tax-free when given to a nonprofit.

Give from your IRA if you are age 70½ or older: This gift helps fulfill your required minimum distribution and is not considered taxable income.

Be sure to consult with your tax professional or financial advisor to determine the best charitable giving strategies for you.
