Gone With The Wind
Margaret Mitchell

Margaret Mitchell was inducted in the first class of the Hall of Fame in 2000, and wrote only one novel!  A native and life-long resident of Atlanta, she worked for the Atlanta Journal Constitution for a few years and spent eight years writing GWTW, published in 1938 to immediate and great commercial success.  She died after being hit by an auto while crossing Peachtree Street in 1949.

GWTW has been perpetually in print, and “debate and study of Mitchell’s literary achievement has been practically as persistent and widespread as the book’s popularity” (GWHOF biography).  Articles, monographs, and dissertations about the novel has been a cottage industry.

We hope to have a lively exchange of views about GWTW and its place in Georgia’s literary heritage.
