A Writers Museum without a local Writer's Guild or Group? Good heaven - what were we thinking?
Actually, we've been thinking about organizing a guild for quite some time, it just has never been A) a good time to do it, B) We've had no one who could commit to getting it done, C) it got shoved down the list of "important things we need to do right away".
So, the time is NOW and the Georgia Writers Museum is the place! On Thursday, September 8, 2016, from 4:30-6 PM, we will have our first organizational meeting for the GWM Writers Guild.
Our plans are to meet once a month (on the second Thursday). The time may be adjusted according to the needs of the group. Right now, we hope that 4:30 pm will work for our teachers and high school students who may wish to attend. Once we establish a faithful group, we will revisit the meeting time issue. However, If you would like to join and 4:30-6PM doesn't work for you, by all means, please email or contact me so we'll know.
Regardless of where you are in your writing skillset, you are welcome to join us. If all you've written lately are Post-It notes, but you have the desire to put words on larger pieces of paper, please join us. If you already have a book started or have even been published, please join us. I foresee this group being a catalyst for encouragement, sharing knowledge, and offering solutions to overcome common problems.
What this group is and isn't: 1) This is not a Book club.2) This is not a personal critique, "help me edit my book" club, 3) This is not a" let me take your idea and write a book" club. But, we may do some of these things. This group may not be "run" like any other group you've attended or have been a member of, and that's OK. We welcome your input, just remember that just because we don't "do it" like the other guilds, doesn't mean it's wrong - it's just different.
If you are over 16, interested in writing, regardless of genre, ability, are willing to participate, please join us on Thursday, September 8 at 4:30 at the Georgia Writers Museum.
Bring a pen and see you there!
